Weiland is a graduate of Tyler College of Art in Philadelphia. He has studied abroad in Italy and traveled and painted throughout Europe and Northern Africa. He served as president of the American Society of Marine artists and is a signature member of the Noyes Museum. In addition to painting and teaching in the states he also teaches painting workshops in Tuscany. Nationally recognized for his watercolors and oils, his realistic approach to painting focuses on the light, color, and atmosphere of each scene. His paintings are displayed in galleries nationally and have been exhibited in The Cape Museum of the Fine Arts, the Spartanburg Art Museum, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and are also included in many private and public collections.
