Gallery for August 2009 - Devin Yalkin

yalkin

Devin Yalkin (b. 1981), born and raised in New York City, is a black & white photographer whose works never fail to bring order to scenes of confusion. Starting out as a street photographer, Yalkin has continued to bring the aesthetics and elements of this process of urban reportage to his newer works. As a first generation Turkish-Armenian-American, Devin’s images in Urban Origins display the parallels he has captured shooting between New York City and various cities of his heritage in Turkey, primarily in Istanbul.

Aside from shooting on location both nationally and internationally, Yalkin has shot work for numerous publications including LA’G Magazine and Borderline Films.

Upon receiving his BFA in Photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York City come May 2010, Devin Yalkin plans to continue the documentation of his curiosities of the streets and its inhabitants. Yalkin, currently living and working in New York City, has also studied at the International Center of Photography in NY, and is now having his first solo exhibition at The Ocean City Arts Center.

A “Meet the Artist Reception” will be held on Friday, August 7, from 6-8:30pm. Event is open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
