2016 June Exhibition:
"In the Manner of Marc Chagall"
Invitational Themed Show
"Meet the Artists" Reception:
Friday, June 10, 7pm - 8:30pm
More than 20 artists from Atlantic and Cape May Counties have painted their interpretations of the Russian-French artist's works. A pioneer of modernism, Chagall worked in every medium including painting, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramic, tapestries and fine art prints. His stained glass images can be seen in the Windows of the UN, at the cathedrals of Reims and Metz and the Jerusalem Windows in Israel.
Ocean City Arts Center's President of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Jack Devine, chose Chagall for the themed show because he "was impressed by the color palette, floating images and most of all, by the fact that he always returned to his hometown Vitebsk in Belarus". Dr. Devine also said, "Family was important to him and he always returned to his roots."
This is the Center's 11th themed show. The first exhibition was a "A Tribute to the Ninth Street Bridge." Last year, the show paid tribute to "Letter Carriers". Other shows were "In the Manner of Matisse", and "I Remember Wanamaker's".
