About the Show...
Artist Michael J brings his provocative exhibit “Identity” to the Ocean City Arts Center July 2 through July 31. A “Meet the Artist” reception, free and open to the public, will be held Friday, July 13 from 7pm to 8:30pm. “Identity” contains familiar portraits of icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison and Audrey Hepburn, but with their faces removed. These portraits symbolize the subjects’ true perceived identity.
About Michael...
Michael, a resident of Marlton, N.J., paints in acrylics and often spray paint. The inspiration for “Identity” is drawn from a critical look at social and personal issues that impact the daily lives of many people. This body of work serves as a reflection on the damaged state of media, privacy, peer pressure, and more. Michael J. created this installation with the hope to inspire others to find and question their own identities.
Executive Director Rosalyn Lifshin said, “Michael J’s paintings are thought provoking and current. They encourage viewers to think about social issues through images of famous people past and present”. “We are delighted to provide a venue for this interesting exhibit”.
