About the Show...

Bruce Garrity's paintings utilize a broad vocabulary of painterly means in the pursuit of visual drama. These paintings in the traditional modes of still life, the figure, interiors and landscape, reference Garrity's studio life and practice, as well as an interest in art historical models. The surfaces of the works range from light washes, direct drawing, scumbles and layerings to heavy impastos of the mostly saturated color palette. Garrity draws on various methods of construction, to bring the works to fruition: direct perception, memory, invention and combinations of these. His paintings, some as large as eight by ten feet, depict figures and objects life size at the picture plane so one feels they can be entered and engaged directly. They are autobiographical of interests over a long period of time.

Bruce Garrity’s  work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions, most recently in the exhibitions: “Bruce Garrity: Projected Memory” at Stockton University Art Gallery, Pomona, New Jersey, ”Bruce Garrity: Recent Work” at 3rd Street Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, “Bruce Garrity: Smaller Works” at the Rehoboth Art League in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, “Bruce Garrity: Paintings and Works in Progress” at The University of Delaware Department of Art Gallery in Newark, Delaware and “Into the Woods” at the Frank Guaracini Jr. Fine and Performing Art Center, in Vineland, New Jersey.
