$200 – 6 Thursdays 6:30pm-8:30pm
Begins 1/23
Supply list available: Click here
Students will work in oils (acrylics can also be used if preferred). A live, clothed model will be used in this class. We will simplify the complexities of portrait painting by breaking it down to a step-by-step process. Beginning with a limited palette, we establish the drawing and underpainting. We lay in the foundations of form by blocking in larger to smaller shapes. As classes progress, we refine and correct features and proportion and expand the value range. Students learn the key roles of light, shadow and value. Color is introduced & we begin building a lifelike representation of the model. Through examples of great portrait painters and hands-on instruction students will learn basic anatomy, the principles of light and shadow and a classical method to paint naturalistic portraits.
