"Glass Act"

by Dana Sheppard

"Meet the Artist" Reception:

Friday, September 8, 6pm - 7:30pm

About the Show...

"Glass Act", a fused glass show by Ocean City resident Dana Sheppard, will be featured here at OCAC September 1-30. A "Meet the Artist" reception, free and open to the public, will be held Friday, September 8, 6pm-7:30pm (please note earlier reception time!). The show will feature an array of glass pieces ranging from unique wall hangings to display art to functional platters and bowls. Each piece is designed with cut glass to create a detailed, one-of-a-kind creation that takes shape when fused in a kiln.

About Dana...

Dana has been involved in art and design her whole life. A Bachelor of Arts degree led her into merchandising interior design work and floral design. Dana first learned glass art 20 years ago when she attended a stained glass workshop at the Ocean City Arts Center. She knew she had found her medium, and continued to work in stained glass for many years. Her commissioned stained glass windows are found in many homes throughout Ocean City and the surrounding area. With multitudes of leftover glass from her stained glass pieces, Dana crossed over to glass mosaic designs which eventually led her to explore glass fusing. Paul Stankard, renowned paperweight artist and family friend, encouraged Dana to take some glass fusing classes. One class and she had found a love for this art. Dana says, "My glass designs express my love of nature, working with color, patterns, textures and the play of light". I am just at the beginning of my exploration of the endless possibilities of fused glass art. Stay tuned!" Ocean City Arts Center Executive Director Rosalyn Lifshin said, "We are delighted to host Dana's 'Glass Act' show. Her work is both beautiful and functional for entertaining and daily life." A student of Meryl Raiffe of Glass Underground in Warren, New Jersey; and Lisa Vogt, a veteran glass artist in Tampa, Florida, Dana has exhibited and sold her work at many area venues.
