Screening Presentation:
"The True Story of Tamara de Limpicka & The Art of Survival"

Saturday, June 27th 2:00PM in the Library Lecture Hall
In collaboration with our current Invitational Artist Exhibition, "In the Manner of Tamara de Lempicka",
we are thrilled to present this internationally acclaimed feature documentary about the artist's life.
This visually stunning and sweeping feature documentary traces the life and survival of the renowned painter
through her powerful paintings – from her rise to international stardom in 1920s Paris, to her move to the
United States in 1940, fleeing the rise of fascism, and her revival in the current art market. Tamara de Lempicka was the
preeminent Art Deco painter, known for her high-gloss sensual nudes and portraits of high society during the Jazz Age.
She was marginalized and gained notoriety for her romantic liaisons with her models and her indulgent, decadent
lifestyle, but she was so much more.
Directed, written, and produced by Julie Rubio, the 96-minute documentary uncovers previously unknown
archival evidence surrounding Tamara de Lempicka, including the revelation of her true birth name, Tamara
Rosa Hurwitz, and her actual birthdate, research now cited by major museums and
cultural institutions internationally.
The film has grown into a significant international cultural success story through largely independent
grassroots distribution efforts, including:
- Over 300 theatrical, museum, festival, and cultural screenings worldwide
- A North American theatrical release in 21 AMC theaters nationwide
- Sold-out screenings and filmmaker Q&As at institutions including the de Young Museum,
National Museum of Women in the Arts, Museum of Fine Arts Houston,
Lincoln Center, and numerous international cultural venues
